The much-awaited ward formation for the upcoming Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections has been approved. The structure remains unchanged from the 2017 elections, despite expectations of revisions.
As per the new announcement, Nagpur city’s total voter population has risen to 23.73 lakh, an increase since 2017. With this, each of the 33 prabhags (wards) will now have between 60,000 to 65,000 voters.
The final notification will be published at the NMC headquarters and other key locations today.
In the 2017 elections, the city had 23.73 lakh voters across 151 polling areas, while the number has now increased. Former corporators and political parties are closely watching the new ward-wise voter distribution, which will play a crucial role in deciding political strategies.
According to officials, the state government directed that each prabhag must consist of four seats. The current structure ensures equitable voter distribution, avoiding major reshuffling.
Meanwhile, political observers note that the unchanged prabhag setup could benefit sitting corporators and established parties, especially the BJP, which had 108 seats in the last election. Congress and other opposition parties are expected to analyze the voter spread before finalizing their candidates.
