Nagpur is set to make history with the under-construction 157-ft statue of Lord Hanuman at Koradi, now officially the tallest human-form idol in the world and the tallest statue in Maharashtra.
Originally designed at 151 ft, the idol’s height was revised upward by six feet after it was learned that a 156-ft Hanuman statue in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, had already entered the Limca Book of Records. Determined to give Koradi its global identity, planners decided to go higher — and the result will now stand unmatched worldwide.
So far, nearly 120 ft of the reinforced concrete structure, covering the base and lower portion, has been completed. The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) is supervising the project, with execution by Gurugram-based Matu Ram Art Centre, known for its monumental works including the 351-ft Shiva in Udaipur and Buddha in Sikkim.
The project, pegged at ₹11.50 crore, is on track for a January 24 inauguration. “Work is progressing as per schedule, and completion is realistic,” said an NMRDA official, confirming that over ₹1 crore worth of work has already been executed.
The statue is the centrepiece of the ₹214.94-crore Koradi Temple Redevelopment Master Plan, which includes a grand Maha Dwar with statues of Shivaji Maharaj and Tulja Bhavani, a VIP Rajgad Gate, murals of Shakti Peethas, children’s adventure park, dinosaur park, monorail, amusement rides, landscaped water bodies and more.
Once unveiled, the 157-ft Hanuman will not only become a spiritual beacon but also a proud cultural landmark for Nagpur.
