With the city’s development radius expanding, Nagpur is set to take shape as “New Nagpur.”
The proposed expansion in Ladgaon and Godhni Rithi has generated much anticipation. Most of the farmers from these areas currently reside in Gumgaon. Guardian Minister and State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule assured that while building this new metropolitan hub, the farmers whose land will be acquired will receive maximum fair compensation within the legal framework, under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
He was speaking during a meeting at the District Planning Building regarding the New Nagpur project, which was attended by local farmers, MP Shyamkumar Barve, MLA Kripal Tumane, NMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mina, DCP Niketan Kadam, Joint Commissioner Sachin Dhole Patil, Additional Collector Pravin Mahire, Dhanraj Ashtankar, Kishor Ashtankar, Premnath Lonare, and other senior officials.
Farmer representative Kishor Ashtankar stated, “We are not opposed to New Nagpur; rather, we wish to be part of its development. Along with compensation, we demand that some plots be allotted to us within the project limits as per the rules.”
It was decided that a five-member representative committee of affected farmers will be formed to coordinate with NMRDA, NIT, and Revenue Department officials. The government assured that it will strive to provide maximum benefits as permitted under the law.
No Plot to Remain Without Registration
Bawankule also addressed issues surrounding “Gunthewari” (unauthorized sub-division) settlements under Nagpur Improvement Trust. Many residents have lived on such land for decades, with some plots reserved and caught up in legal complications. After surveying, regularization processes begin, but delays and procedural hurdles have caused distress.
The minister announced that the state government will soon finalize a new policy to expedite Gunthewari regularization. This, he said, would provide relief to thousands of families awaiting legal recognition. The powers for land measurement under Gunthewari are likely to be transferred to NIT and NMRDA. Retired survey officers and experienced professionals will be empaneled to speed up this process.
Bawankule also chaired a review meeting on various NIT development works.
