Nagpur: Gittikhadan Police have arrested a man and his mother for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 45-year-old woman, who ended her life following continuous physical and mental harassment over infertility.
According to police, the deceased, Archana Nitin Patil (45), was married to accused Nitin Dinkar Patil in 2009. The couple lived at Plot No. 302, Leo Paradise, Gokul Society, Borgaon. Archana reportedly faced regular verbal abuse and physical assault from her husband Nitin (45) and mother-in-law Sharda Dinkar Patil (65), who taunted her for not being able to conceive.
Unable to bear the humiliation and torture, Archana allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan using a nylon rope at her residence around 6:40 pm on September 16, 2025.
Based on a complaint filed by her father, Krishna Ganpat Hargude (71), a resident of Airoli, Navi Mumbai, police registered an offense under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). PSI Pathan conducted the investigation, leading to the arrest of both accused. Further probe is underway.
