Taking another step toward creating a clean, beautiful, and green Nagpur, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced the ‘Swachh Mohalla Contest’ under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The initiative aims to encourage residential areas to maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and public participation.
Under the contest, winning mohallas will receive development funds worth ₹1.63 crore. Registration began on Thursday (Oct 9) through the link https://forms.gle/LH8N8C5xnSFEryFp9.
The contest is being conducted under the directives of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, and the guidance of Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant, who has appealed to citizens to participate in large numbers.
Eligible mohallas must have 200 to 500 houses to apply. Evaluation will not only focus on waste management but also on citizen participation and community responsibility. Key criteria include 100% segregation of wet, dry, and hazardous waste, composting of organic waste, complete ban on single-use plastic, and effective use of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) principle. Cleanliness of public spaces, gardens, parking areas, and vendor zones, as well as elimination of “black spots” (dumping areas) and “red spots” (spitting zones), will also be assessed.
Attractive prizes include ₹25 lakh each for three top mohallas, ₹10 lakh each for five runners-up, and ₹5 lakh each for seven others — totaling ₹1.60 crore. Additionally, three mohallas showing innovation or swift progress will receive ₹1 lakh each.
Citizens can register using the provided QR code or the official link and help make Nagpur cleaner and greener.
