Continuing its commitment to a cleaner and greener city, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will launch its annual ‘Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali’ campaign from October 12 to 18. The initiative aims to ensure proper disposal and recycling of unused household items generated during pre-Diwali cleaning.
Under the campaign, 102 special collection centers will be set up across 10 zones of the city for citizens to deposit reusable or discarded materials such as clothes, furniture, plastic items, utensils, toys, shoes, books, and e-waste. These items will either be recycled or provided to the needy.
The drive is being implemented under the direction of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, guidance of Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant, and coordination of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Bhagat and Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle.
To encourage participation, NMC has introduced color-coded bins — red, yellow, green, and blue — for different waste types. A special arrangement for e-waste collection will also be available. For bulky items such as beds, cupboards, or sofas, NMC will provide a home pickup vehicle service on citizen request.
From October 14, donation centers will also open at ward offices, schools, and community halls, followed by 40 additional centers from October 16. Citizens are urged to participate actively, reduce private waste dumping, and make this Diwali cleaner, safer, and more environment-friendly.
