In a disturbing case that underscores the lack of awareness about handling behavioural issues in children, a 12-year-old boy was allegedly chained and locked up by his parents for months in the Ajni area.
The child, described as truant and hyperactive, was reportedly kept confined for eight to ten hours every day while his parents, daily wage labourers, went out to work.
According to officials, the illiterate parents believed this was the only way to stop their only child from bullying others and allegedly stealing from neighbours. The matter came to light after the Child Helpline (1098) received an alert about the boy’s condition, leading to swift intervention by child protection authorities.
