In a shocking incident, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed to death by her father following a dispute over child custody in the Wathoda police station area in the early hours of Wednesday.
The incident occurred at around 5:45 am on January 14, 2026, at Plot No. 12, Sarode Nagar, where the complainant, Kusumbai Krushnarao Shendre (71), resides with her sons. Her elder son, Shekhar Krushnarao Shendre (46)—the accused—had been living separately from his wife, Shubhangi, due to ongoing marital disputes. Their daughter, Dhanashree Shendre (8), was staying with her father and grandmother.
According to police, Shubhangi had been repeatedly demanding custody of the child, which the accused allegedly opposed, leading to frequent arguments. In a fit of rage, Shekhar Shendre allegedly stabbed his daughter in the chest with a knife, inflicting critical injuries.
On hearing the child’s screams, the complainant and her younger son, Umesh Shendre (45), rushed to the spot and immediately took the injured girl to Wathoda Police Station. Police personnel then rushed her to Medical Hospital, Nagpur, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.
Further investigation is underway, and the accused has been taken into custody.
