Ahead of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections, special measures are being introduced across the city to boost voter turnout, with a particular focus on encouraging women voters.
In each zone, one polling station will be run entirely by women staff and designated as a ‘Pink Booth’. In addition, one polling station per zone will be developed as a ‘Model Booth’, offering improved facilities to ensure a comfortable and accessible voting experience for all voters.
Following directions from the State Election Commission, these arrangements are being implemented under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and Election Officer Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari. In total, 10 pink booths and 10 model booths will be set up across the city’s ten zones.
The initiative aims to increase overall voter participation and motivate more women to take part in the electoral process. At pink booths, all election-related duties—from voter verification to the polling process—will be handled exclusively by women employees. These booths will also be visually marked with pink balloons and signage to create a welcoming and easily identifiable atmosphere.
