Winter conditions have eased across Vidarbha over the past week, with temperatures rising due to increased sunshine and a shift in wind patterns, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The regional weather office has indicated that this warmer trend is likely to continue through the remaining days of January.
Meteorologists said south-easterly winds have replaced the northerly and north-westerly flows that typically bring colder air into the region, leading to a gradual increase in both day and night temperatures. As a result, minimum temperatures are expected to stay above 12 degrees Celsius for at least the next week.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur, noted that maximum temperatures in January are likely to hover around 30 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures will remain relatively mild. However, officials cautioned that the region could experience another short spell of winter chill in February, which may lower temperatures by about two to three degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday, Brahmapuri emerged as the warmest location in Vidarbha, recording a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius. It was followed by Chandrapur at 32.2 degrees Celsius, Akola at 31 degrees Celsius, Wardha at 30.8 degrees Celsius, Gadchiroli at 30.2 degrees Celsius, and Bhandara at 30 degrees Celsius. Several other cities, including Amravati, Yavatmal, Nagpur, Gondia and Buldhana, also reported maximum temperatures close to or slightly below the 30-degree mark.
Minimum temperatures also showed a noticeable rise. Akola recorded the highest minimum temperature at 16.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Buldhana at 16 degrees Celsius. Amravati reported 15.3 degrees Celsius, Chandrapur 15.6 degrees Celsius, Brahmapuri 14.4 degrees Celsius, Gadchiroli 14.4 degrees Celsius, and Wardha 14.5 degrees Celsius. Gondia remained the coolest during the night, with a minimum temperature of 13.5 degrees Celsius.
Weather officials said the evolving wind pattern will continue to influence temperature trends in the coming days, with no immediate cold wave conditions expected.
