An 18-month-old girl died in a tragic road accident in the Kharbi area on Friday after being struck by a speeding tempo truck. The incident took place in a residential lane and has once again highlighted the growing threat of reckless heavy vehicles operating on city outskirts.
According to Wathoda Police, the victim, Priyanshi Vishnu Devpach, was playing outside her house around 1 pm when an L&T tempo truck (MH 49 BZ 6529) came at high speed and hit her. The driver, identified as Vishnu Sawanlal Gautam (51) of Kharbi, allegedly fled the spot immediately after the accident.
Priyanshi was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
A complaint was filed by her father, Vishnu Guruprasad Devpach (30), a resident of Vaishnavi Layout, Sai Baba Nagar. Based on this, Wathoda Police registered a case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused driver.
Police officials said that further investigation into the fatal Kharbi accident is in progress.
