Health Awareness Campaign: Healthy Mothers, Healthy Children, Prosperous Nagpur
In a significant step towards reducing maternal and child mortality in the district, the Zilla Parishad administration has launched a comprehensive health awareness initiative titled “Health Awareness: Healthy Mothers, Healthy Children, Prosperous Nagpur.” Chief Executive Officer Mr. Vinayak Mahamuni emphasized that medical treatment alone is not sufficient and that sustainable improvement in public health requires positive changes in societal health behavior.
The year-long special campaign is being implemented under his guidance with a focus on creating lasting awareness and behavioral change among families, especially mothers and children.
Health Dialogue through Innovative and Coordinated Efforts
A key feature of the campaign is its strong emphasis on interdepartmental coordination and innovative outreach. The initiative goes beyond the Health Department to include the Women and Child Development Department and other concerned departments, ensuring a unified and effective approach.
At every vaccination session, health workers, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers will engage directly with mothers. Along with providing information, the campaign will use demonstrations and real-life success stories to encourage healthy practices and bring about permanent behavioral change in the community.
Monthly Focus Areas under the Campaign
Under the initiative, a specific health theme will be addressed each month across the district:
- January: Sickle Cell Special Fortnight – Sickle cell screening for individuals aged 0–40 years and emphasis on checking sickle cell cards (“blood horoscope”).
- February: Cleaning and Disinfection Day – Importance of hand hygiene for children and use of deworming tablets.
- March: Nutrition during Pregnancy – Awareness on healthy maternal diet.
- April: Adolescent Health – Importance of health care for growing children.
