GITTIKHADAN Police have registered a case against 13 persons, including hotelier Cyrus Chang, for allegedly attempting to take over a café at Gondwana Club.The action was taken following a complaint by Chanchal Vaishnav (42), a resident of Jai Vijay Layout on Nari Road in Kapil Nagar.
Police said Chang, who runs a hotel in the Civil Lines area, along with his associates holds the catering and service contract at Gondwana Club.Vaishnav has been working at the club for the last ten years. Renovation work at the club’s Uphill Café has been underway since January 19.
As per the complaint, the club management had directed Vaishnav not to allow anyone inside the café during the renovation period.However, on January 31 at around 5.30 pm, Chang, along with Priya Thakur (38), Anushree Mahalle (35) and their associates, allegedly arrived at the spot and tried to forcibly enter the café.
When Vaishnav tried to stop them, Thakur allegedly threatened to falsely implicate him in a case if he did not allow entry. The complaint further states that Vaishnav was pushed and shoved during the altercation. Chang allegedly broke both locks of the café door, entered the premises and locked it from inside, creating tension at the club.
On receiving information, Gittikhadan Police reached the spot.The situation reportedly escalated further on Monday when Chang and his associates allegedly prevented labourers from continuing renovation work. Following this, Vaishnav lodged a formal complaint.Police have registered a case and said further investigation is underway.
