In a push to free up underutilised industrial land, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has issued closure notices to 92 non-functional units in Hingna and Butibori industrial estates, asking them to explain prolonged inactivity or surrender allotted plots.
The drive follows the state government’s renewed focus on accelerating industrial growth, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and senior ministers closely monitoring progress. MIDC officials conducted inspections across both estates and identified units showing complete inactivity, many of them falling under the MSME category.
Regional officer Manohar Pote said the objective is to ensure proper utilisation of available industrial land and facilitate fresh investment that can generate employment. While some units have cited seasonal production, labour shortages and raw material constraints in their replies, officials indicated that irregular operations would invite strict action.
The next step involves conducting a formal ‘panchnama’, which could lead to repossession of plots.
Among those served notice is Richardson & Cruddas Limited
