Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari has been transferred and appointed as the Metropolitan Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), according to an order issued by the Maharashtra government on March 4, 2026. Following the transfer, Vipin Itankar will take charge as the new Commissioner of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
The order issued by the state’s General Administration Department directed Chaudhari to hand over charge of the civic body and assume his new role in Pune. Chaudhari had been serving as the Municipal Commissioner of Nagpur since July 4, 2023, overseeing the city’s civic administration at a time when the municipal corporation has been functioning under administrative rule.
A medical graduate by training, Chaudhari completed his MBBS in 2008 before entering the civil services. He was first selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 2010 and later joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 2011. During his administrative career, he has held several key positions in Maharashtra including Assistant Collector in Osmanabad, Sub-Divisional Officer in Kinwat (Nanded), Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Aurangabad, Collector of Bhandara, Municipal Commissioner of Kolhapur, and Collector of Sangli. He also served as Commissioner and Administrator of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation before being posted to Nagpur.
With Chaudhari’s transfer to PMRDA, Vipin Itankar will now head the Nagpur Municipal Corporation as its Commissioner.
