A senior citizen On Saturday fell unconscious and died while standing for hours in the long queue for an LPG cylinder in Akola.
Shankar Shirsat, 80 years old, was standing in a queue at Yaduraj Gas Agency on Saturday. He stood in the queue around 9 am and was waiting for his number till 1.30 pm when he collapsed. Before he could get any treatment he died at the site.
Shirsat was a former Sarpanch of Anvi Mirzapur Gram Panchayat.
People criticised the administration for compelling people to stand in long queues for LPG cylinders for hours together in the scorching heat.
The temperature in Vidarbha region has already crossed 40 degree Celsius, and Akola being one of the hottest cities in Maharashtra.
