Directions issued by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to make the city’s footpaths encroachment-free have been welcomed by Grahak Panchayat Maharashtra.
Gadkari has instructed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to take immediate action and submit a report within eight days.
Encroachments on footpaths across Nagpur have forced pedestrians, particularly senior citizens, onto busy roads, raising serious safety concerns. The organisation noted that the issue has been repeatedly highlighted over the past three years, but has not received adequate attention from authorities.
Shyamkant Patrikar, Vidarbha President of Grahak Panchayat, said the minister’s intervention has brought renewed focus to the long-pending issue.
Patrikar, along with Dr Kalpana Upadhyay, Region Organiser, and Liladhar Lohare, Secretary, expressed hope that strict implementation of the directive will lead to obstruction-free footpaths and safer movement for all citizens.
