With the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) voter roll mapping work severely lagging in Nagpur district, the Election Commission of India has ordered FIRs to be filed against Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who have failed to perform their duties.
Out of a target of 100%, Nagpur has completed only 41% of the voter mapping (door-to-door survey) work so far. District Collector and District Election Officer Kumar Ashirwad has issued instructions to all Electoral Registration Officers directing them to serve show-cause notices to non-performing BLOs within two days, following which FIR action will be initiated.
The base voter list for the SIR exercise is the 2002 electoral roll, and the 2024 final voter list is to be taken as the updated reference. BLOs are required to collect fresh photographs and verify details of voters whose names appear in both lists. The district has 4,630 BLOs in total.
The Election Commission has set a deadline for completing 100% mapping by end of April, with Chief Electoral Officer Chaklingam having earlier signalled April 10 as the initial target for commencement.
