In a major relief for residents, the district administration has taken decisive steps to streamline the supply of domestic LPG cylinders across the city and district. District Collector Kumar Ashirwad convened a joint meeting with leading oil marketing companies — Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Indian Oil Corporation Limited — directing them to significantly increase daily cylinder supply to meet rising demand.
Taking into account the past month’s supply trends, pending bookings, and consumer complaints, the administration issued clear instructions for immediate action. Following these directions, LPG companies have doubled their supply load for Nagpur. HPCL, which was earlier supplying around 8,450 cylinders daily, has now increased supply to approximately 19,700 cylinders per day. BPCL is currently supplying around 99 metric tonnes (approximately 6,972 cylinders) daily, while IOCL has increased supply particularly to agencies with longer waiting lists. This move is expected to significantly reduce waiting time for consumers.
Authorities have mandated the implementation of a “First In, First Out” (FIFO) system, ensuring that customers who booked cylinders earlier receive deliveries first. This step aims to bring transparency and fairness in distribution. Gas agencies facing higher complaint volumes have also been instructed to deploy additional delivery vehicles and manpower to ensure faster doorstep delivery.
In a significant move, the supply of 5 kg FTL cylinders, commonly used by migrant workers, has also been doubled to ensure uninterrupted access for this segment. To curb irregularities such as gas theft and fake deliveries, the administration has made Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) verification mandatory. Agencies have been directed to ensure at least 90–95 percent of deliveries are completed through OTP authentication. Agencies maintaining over 90 percent DAC compliance will be allowed to maintain additional LPG stock.
To resolve technical issues related to pending e-KYC, all Seva centers in the district will provide free e-KYC services to LPG consumers, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted access to refills. Additionally, gas agencies have been directed to install temporary sheds at distribution centers to protect citizens from extreme heat and to ensure availability of clean drinking water.
The administration has also emphasized structured distribution and better time management to avoid overcrowding at centers. Monitoring is being carried out at the taluka level and through zonal officers in the city.
Officials stated that the recent shortage caused by global factors and technical disruptions is expected to ease soon with the increased supply. Citizens have been urged not to believe in rumors and to cooperate with authorities.
This coordinated effort is expected to bring much-needed relief to LPG consumers across Nagpur and restore normalcy in supply operations.
