A shocking incident at Nagpur’s Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has raised serious concerns over discipline and patient safety after a heated argument between junior resident doctors escalated into a physical fight on Monday. The incident left patients and relatives stunned, witnessing scenes more akin to a street clash than a hospital environment.
According to sources, the dispute reportedly began inside the Radiology Department over delays in issuing medical reports. What started as a verbal disagreement between a Radiology junior resident doctor and a Surgery department resident over pending diagnostic reports soon intensified, disrupting routine hospital work and affecting patient care services.
Eyewitnesses said the situation quickly turned chaotic as shouting and pushing escalated into a full-blown scuffle between doctors from the Surgery and Radiology departments. The Radiology section reportedly turned disorderly for some time, with patients waiting for X-rays and scans caught in the middle of the commotion as hospital services were partially disrupted.
Sources further said that tensions worsened when additional Surgery department resident doctors allegedly entered the Radiology unit, initially claiming to intervene and resolve the issue. However, the situation reignited and soon turned into a physical confrontation involving both groups, with reports of pushing, punches and verbal altercations. The hospital administration has taken cognisance of the matter and initiated an internal inquiry, while no police complaint had been filed at Ajni Police Station till late evening.
