A major disruption in the supply of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders has once again increased the waiting period for consumers across Nagpur and the Vidarbha region. While authorities continue to claim that gas supply remains smooth, long queues outside several gas agencies tell a different story, drawing strong criticism from consumers.
According to Central Government norms, there must be a mandatory gap of 25 days between two cylinder bookings in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas. However, consumers say the actual situation is far worse. In many urban areas, cylinders are being delivered only after 35 to 40 days from the date of booking.Nagpur alone has more than 1.3 million domestic LPG consumers.
Gas companies and administrative officials have repeatedly denied any shortage of cylinders. However, consumer organisations have strongly rejected these claims, alleging that the administration is spreading misleading information to create a false impression that the supply situation is under control.
