The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food and drug licence of Goras Bhandar Samiti following a raid conducted on May 31 by Divisional Commissioner Tukaram Munde. The action came after inspectors found serious lapses in compliance and adulteration-related violations during the surprise inspection on a Friday.
Following the raid, Munde put pressure on the FDA to act and even threatened to approach the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur bench if the administration failed to respond. Heeding the warning, the FDA launched a formal probe and verified records submitted against the samiti before initiating suspension proceedings.
The samiti’s lawyer, however, has contested the action, arguing that the suspension of a food and drug licence can only be challenged before the appropriate judicial authority. He alleged that the Goras Bhandar notices issued by the samiti’s administration were legally deficient and raised concerns about FOSCOS, FSSAI, and FDA procedures not being followed.
According to the lawyer, all concerned administrative officials were informed of the procedural lapses well in advance, and enough opportunity was given to rectify them. The FDA, however, proceeded with the suspension after reviewing the irregularities and finding them prima facie established.
The final decision on cancellation of Goras Bhandar’s licence is now pending with the FDA.
