Congress Corporator and Standing Committee Member Abhijeet Jha has strongly criticized the Nagpur Municipal Corporation administration and the ruling party over the worsening garbage collection crisis caused by the ongoing strike of AG Enviro’s contractual workers. Large heaps of garbage have accumulated in several parts of the city, including Futala, Bharat Nagar, Telangkhedi, Civil Lines and the GSI Office area, leading to a surge in public complaints.

Jha stated that AG Enviro, which handles waste collection in Zones 1 to 5, has been facing complaints since the beginning of its contract. Issues related to irregular garbage collection, inadequate manpower and poor sanitation services have repeatedly been raised by corporators and public representatives. The company’s functioning has also been questioned in the State Legislature and municipal meetings on multiple occasions.

He alleged that despite repeated complaints and clear evidence of poor performance, the administration failed to take strict action against the contractor. As a result, garbage has remained uncollected for the past three days, while no alternative arrangements have been made. With the monsoon approaching, the situation has become a serious public health concern, he said.

Calling the situation ironic during the ongoing Environment Conservation and Cleanliness Fortnight, Jha said cleanliness campaigns and publicity events mean little when garbage is piling up on roads and outside homes.
He demanded immediate restoration of waste collection services, strict action against AG Enviro and a contingency sanitation plan, warning that the Congress Party would intensify its agitation if prompt corrective measures are not taken.
