The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has directed all government-recognised primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in Nagpur district, affiliated to the State Board, CBSE, ICSE and other recognised boards, to submit details of their Transport Committee meetings held over the past two years, along with a complete list of buses and other vehicles used for transporting students. The court has warned that schools failing to comply with the directions may face a penalty of Rs 50,000.
The directive has been issued in accordance with orders passed by the High Court on February 16, March 6 and March 17, 2026, in connection with Public Interest Litigation (PIL) No. 2 of 2012 pending before the Nagpur Bench.
The court has sought detailed information regarding the functioning of school transport committees and the vehicles engaged in student transportation to ensure compliance with safety norms and regulations.
The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for June 18, 2026. Accordingly, all concerned school principals, headmasters and managements in Nagpur district have been instructed to submit the required information along with an affidavit before the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court prior to the hearing date.
Divisional Deputy Director of Education Dr. Madhuri Sawarkar has issued a public notice urging all schools to comply with the court’s directions within the stipulated timeframe to avoid penal action.
