In a major crackdown on fraud committed in the name of religion, the Beltarodi Police have busted a racket that allegedly cheated devotees by collecting illegal donations using fake receipt books printed in the name of the Jamsaoli Hanuman Temple.
The case comes at a time when allegations related to donation irregularities at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple have remained in public discussion. In Nagpur, the accused allegedly exploited religious faith by posing as authorised representatives of the temple trust and seeking donations from unsuspecting devotees.
Police have arrested three persons in connection with the case. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had printed forged receipt books bearing the temple’s name and used them to collect money from the public without any authorisation.
Fake receipt books and other incriminating documents have been seized from the accused. Investigators suspect the group may have illegally collected lakhs of rupees through the fraudulent scheme.
The Beltarodi Police are now probing the extent of the racket, including the areas where the accused operated, the total amount collected, and whether more people were involved. Further investigation is underway.
