A deeply disturbing incident has surfaced from the Government Girls’ Hostel near IC Square, where two unidentified men reportedly trespassed into the hostel premises in the early hours of July 22, 2025, between 2:00 AM and 2:30 AM, and allegedly attempted to sexually assault a female engineering student.
According to initial reports, the student raised an alarm during the assault attempt, prompting the intruders to flee. One of the accused allegedly snatched the victim’s mobile phone before escaping.
What has triggered intense public anger is the glaring absence of basic security at the hostel — no CCTV surveillance, no security personnel on duty, and a lack of timely intervention from the hostel authorities. Even after the student reported the incident to the warden, no immediate action was taken by either the hostel administration or the concerned department.
Further compounding the situation, the matter was reported to the MIDC Police Station, but no FIR was filed, no suspects were detained, and no investigation was initiated, sparking allegations of negligence and a cover-up attempt by both hostel and police officials.
In response, the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) has announced a major protest on July 23 at 9:00 AM, starting from MIDC Police Station and moving towards the Commissioner of Police Office, the District Collectorate, and the hostel premises.
VBA leaders — Manish Borkar (District President, Youth Wing), Mangesh Wankhede (President, Nagpur City), and Siddhant Patil (Working President, Nagpur City) — have demanded:
- Immediate registration of an FIR
- Arrest of the culprits
- Disciplinary action against officials who attempted to suppress the incident
- Urgent installation of proper security infrastructure in all government-run girls’ hostels
The incident has sparked widespread concern among students and parents alike, with calls growing louder for systemic reform and accountability.
