If your property paperwork is stuck due to unpaid stamp duty, the clock is ticking. The Maharashtra government has reopened its stamp duty amnesty scheme for the last time — from July 21 to August 20, 2025 — giving 13,566 applicants one final shot at legalising their property documents.
This isn’t for new applicants. Only those who applied under the 2023 scheme but failed to complete payments — due to server crashes, challan delays, or last-minute technical glitches — are eligible. For them, it’s now or never.
The stamp duty amnesty, first launched in December 2023, was a much-needed relief for property owners with documents executed between January 1, 1980, and December 31, 2020, that were unstamped or under-stamped. It waived 100% of penalties and offered big interest relief — allowing applicants to pay only the original duty amount.
By the scheme’s earlier deadline of September 30, 2024, the state received over 81,000 applications, clearing 41,085 and recovering ₹509.61 crore. But thousands remained stranded in bureaucratic limbo — despite following the rules.
Now, a fresh government resolution (GR) dated July 21, 2025, has invoked Section 9 of the Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958, to reopen the window. All sub-registrars have been instructed to fast-track pending cases.
This could be the final amnesty ever. Without proper stamping, property documents are legally useless — in court, for loans, or for resale. For those affected, this rare second chance could mean the difference between ownership and oblivion.
