In an effort to simplify the process of booking train tickets, the South East Central Railway (SECR), Nagpur Division, has launched 11 new reservation counters at non-railhead locations, primarily in post offices. The initiative, implemented in collaboration with India Post, aims to expand ticketing access and reduce dependency on railway station counters.
The newly sanctioned counters are operational at locations including Nagpur Airport, Motibagh, Sakkardara, and Shankar Nagar post offices within the city. In regional areas, counters have been opened at Lakhnadon, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Dindori, Chhindwara, Khairagarh, and Baihar.
These facilities are especially beneficial for suburban and semi-urban populations, where railway stations are often located far from residential zones. By utilizing the extensive postal network, SECR has made ticket booking more convenient for travelers.
According to railway officials, the response at these counters has been encouraging. In Nagpur, the Sakkardara and Shankar Nagar post offices report an average sale of 40 reservation forms daily, while Bhandara sees around 30 forms per day, and other locations average 20 forms daily.
This move is expected to not only reduce congestion at station ticket counters but also improve passenger convenience across the division.
