A major scare gripped the Maharajbagh Zoo on Thursday morning when a man suddenly jumped into the tiger enclosure, sending shockwaves among zoo authorities and morning visitors. The incident occurred around 8:30 AM, when the man entered the main enclosure that houses two adult tigers.
Eyewitnesses and zoo staff reported that the intruder scaled the safety barrier and entered the enclosure without any hesitation. The man wandered dangerously close to the tigers, creating a life-threatening situation for himself and raising panic among onlookers.
Zoo authorities immediately sounded an alert, and the animal keepers swiftly distracted the tigers to prevent any attack. Security personnel and police from the Sitabuldi Police Station rushed to the spot and managed to pull the man out of the enclosure safely.
Preliminary reports suggest that the man may be mentally unstable, as he appeared disoriented and did not respond to repeated warnings. He has been taken into custody by Sitabuldi police for further interrogation, and a medical evaluation is likely to be conducted.
Officials confirmed that no harm came to the tigers or the intruder, but the incident has raised serious questions about the security measures at the zoo. A detailed inquiry is expected to be conducted to ensure such breaches do not happen again.
