Ahead of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) General Elections 2025–26, police complaints have been lodged against three government school headmasters in the Dharampeth Zone for allegedly refusing to comply with election duty and training orders. The complaints were submitted at Ambazari Police Station on the directions of the Election Authority.
As per official documents, the State Election Commission, Maharashtra, and the Municipal Commissioner-cum-Election Officer, NMC Nagpur, had appointed the concerned individuals as polling officers for the civic polls. Appointment and training orders dated December 21, 2025, were delivered to their respective addresses through departmental staff. However, the officials reportedly declined to accept the orders, thereby disobeying instructions issued by a competent authority.
The Election Authority has sought action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which pertains to violation of lawful orders by public servants. Officials stated that such refusal reflects negligence of duty and causes obstruction in the conduct of election-related work.
The police complaints name Jayashri Rajesh Salame, headmistress from Shanti Nagar near the Indira Gandhi statue; D.G. Dharmik, headmaster residing at Ishwar Nagar on Ramna Maroti Road; and M.A. Shaikh, headmaster from the Civil Lines area. Sanitation inspectors Rohit Leader, Karansing Behunia and Omprakash Koche have been authorised by the department to submit the complaints on behalf of the Election Officer.
Election officials have cautioned that polling duty is mandatory under election law and warned that similar police complaints will be filed against any officer or employee found avoiding election responsibilities, as such actions may adversely affect the smooth conduct of the civic elections.
