Nagpur Traffic Police have announced the temporary closure of 15 flyovers across the city on January 14 as a safety measure for Makar Sankranti.
The restrictions will be in force from 6 am to 6 pm, according to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Nagpur City.The decision has been taken in view of large-scale kite flying during the festival. Children often come onto roads to retrieve kites and *manja*, increasing the risk of accidents. Fallen kite strings on roads, especially on elevated stretches, also pose a serious threat to motorists. To prevent mishaps and ensure smooth traffic movement, selected flyovers will remain closed as required.
The flyovers to be closed include Adivasi Gowari Smarak Flyover (Sitabuldi), Sakkardara Flyover, Dighori Flyover, LIC to Sai Mandir Flyover on Kamptee Road, Kadbi Chowk–Sadar Aakar Building Flyover, Dahi Bazaar Flyover, Mehdibagh Flyover, Ramjhula Flyover (Jaistambh Chowk to LIC Square), Kalpana Talkies Chowk–Mankapur Flyover, Sadar Flyover (Katol Road–Mankapur), Manish Nagar Flyover on Wardha Road, Wadi Flyover (Naka No. 10 to Wadi Police Station), Kawrapeth Flyover, Pardi Flyover and Harihar Mandir Lakadganj Flyover.
All vehicles, including bicycles and cycle rickshaws, will be prohibited on these flyovers during the notified period. Traffic police have appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules, cooperate with authorities and celebrate the festival responsibly.
