A narrow stretch of road beneath the Gyanyogi Dr Shrikant Jichkar flyover near the RTO office on Amravati Road has turned into a major bottleneck due to piled-up construction debris and unchecked vehicle parking, affecting both traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
Near the point where the flyover descends, especially beside a roadside eatery, heaps of construction material remain uncleared. Over time, motorists have started parking in this space, further shrinking the road width. Nearly half the carriageway is now blocked, forcing vehicles to slow down, form long queues during peak hours and pass dangerously close to oncoming traffic.
Pedestrians face even greater risk. With no proper footpath, they are pushed onto the busy road. The problem is compounded by the exposed edge of a nullah running alongside the stretch and loose wires protruding from the ground up to Bole Petrol Pump Square.
Although some pavement work has begun recently, there is no barricading around the construction material and no action to stop parking along the affected stretch. On-site workers said the pavement work may be completed in 10 to 15 days, but no official timeline has been announced. The nullah wall was demolished in August–September 2024 during flyover construction.
While the flyover is now operational, ground-level work remains unfinished, allowing debris to pile up and parking to go unchecked. Residents and daily commuters have urged authorities to clear the debris, regulate parking, fix responsibility and restore the road to its full width.
While the flyover above reflects development, the neglected road below tells a different story. Until agencies set clear timelines and enforce basic traffic rules, commuters will continue to bear the brunt of civic apathy.
