The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced financial assistance of up to ₹3 lakh for differently-abled athletes excelling at national and international levels. This initiative, implemented under the guidance of NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, aims to support the training and development of para-athletes through the Social Development Department.
Differently-abled athletes representing Nagpur at state, national, and international sports events will be eligible for financial support to cover expenses such as training, purchase or import of sports equipment, and travel costs for competitions. NMC has invited applications from eligible beneficiaries, which can be submitted online at www.nmcnagpur.gov.in.
The scheme is open to athletes with 40% or more disability, participating in state, national, and international competitions. Dr. Ranjana Lade, Deputy Commissioner of the Social Development Department, stated that the revised scheme is designed to ensure maximum support for para-athletes at every level of competition.
Under the scheme:
State-level participants will receive ₹15,000 for travel, entry fees, accommodation, and meals.
National-level participants will receive ₹25,000 for similar expenses.
International-level participants will receive ₹1 lakh in financial support, depending on whether the event is individual or team-based and the location of the competition.
Furthermore, athletes qualifying for prestigious tournaments such as the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics, Para-Olympics, Para-Asian Games, and Junior World Championships will be eligible for a grant of ₹3 lakh. This amount can be utilized for overseas training, professional guidance, and purchasing or importing advanced sports equipment, according to Dr. Lade.
This initiative reflects NMC’s commitment to empowering differently-abled athletes and enabling them to achieve excellence on national and international platforms.
